Waiting in the ER as I write this post. I will probably be here for several hours as we wait to see if the new antibiotics help my skin infection.
In preparation I have brought my sketchbook and charcoal pencils, my knitting that I restarted, and a stuffy that my son picked out.
I’m still thinking about the self-portrait from yesterday and realized that I made the mouth too wide. When I crop out the bottom part of the painting, I’m pleased with it.
I love that I was more daring with incorporating brighter and bolder colors in the face and then added some traditional skin tones. I feel confident that my next attempt will be even better than the first two. I’ve been using unsanded paper but I think I’m going to use sanded paper for this next attempt. I am working on having a light touch with my pastel application but I think I filled the tooth off the Canson Mi Tientes paper that I used yesterday.
Stay tuned – hopefully I’ll be able to share some good news and creations tomorrow!
I finished up row 10 of my short-rows and successfully picked up my dropped stitch. Then I counted all my stitches… the section where I dropped a stitch has one stitch too many and the front section of the sweater has 10 extra stitches. I *think* I misread the pattern 😦
Question time: do I rip out the stitches and start over or switch to making the sweater for my son? Leave your opinion in the comments below, please!
We had a school cancelation due to ice, so my Monday plans for derailed. It’s all good though – I’ve enjoyed watching movies and backing bread with my son.
No pics, but I have made good progress on my sweater. The only bummer is that I dropped a stitch, so I need to look up how to fix that before I knit anymore. But, I’m almost at the yoke of the sweater! Let me tell you, sport weight yarn is a lot slower than aran/ worsted weight yarn. I hope I finish this sweater with enough cool weather to wear it this year!
I won’t keep you waiting about the cake. I’ll be honest, I didn’t care for it to much yesterday. It had a funky taste which was probably due to the fact that I made it with gluten- free flour. But, I just had a nibble about 10 min ago and it was pretty tasty. So much better than when it was fresh baked. I’ll probably wrap it up and freeze it in pieces so I don’t feel like I need to eat an entire cake in a few days. It could be done, but I really don’t want to do that.
Now, about the new project. I’ve realized I have a plethora of really lovely yarn and I’d like to start using it up. So, when Meg @postmodern.meg on Instagram shared her pic of this beautiful sweater it looked like the perfect project for me.
I’ll be using some sport weight baby alpaca from Knit Picks to make mine. It looks similar to a children’s sweater that I made for my son so I think I can handle the “advanced beginner ” techniques. Honestly, once I get past the short rows I think it will be a breeze.
Why a new project? Well, I seem to have more energy lately and have been staying up later at night. If like to have a simple project I can work on while watching TV with the hubs.
Anyone else getting back into knitting? What other hobbies are you working on?
